LAST qualifications for the Frisian Draughts World Championships from 7 to 16 June

Dear draughts players,

You will doubtless know that the next Frisian Draughts World Championships will be held this summer (16 to 24 August) in the town of Harns/Harlingen. 16 people will participate in that WC.

There are still three places available for the WC. To fill these, one more online qualification tournament will be held, both at Lidraughts.

This last qualification tournament will be held soon: Fridays and Saturdays 7, 8, 14 and 15 June, with a finals on Sunday 16 June. In the four preliminary rounds (7/8/14/15 June) there are three places for the finals to be won in each round. In such a way, there will be a total of 12 finalists on 16 June. Those twelve finalists will play for the last 3 open places for the World Cup.

Who can participate?

Anyone who wants to participate must first register with the Team WFD at Lidraughts. This is not always possible right before the tournament, so you should not wait too long, if you are not yet a member of Team WFD. You have to give your first and family names to registrate, and also your date and year of birth and email address. Only after these have been entered, the registration
will be approved (which takes some time), and only then can you sign up for the qualification tournament. It will not be possible to register as a Team WFD player during one of the tournaments.

Who cannot participate?

People who have already been placed cannot participate. These are Aleksej Domchev, Auke Zijlstra, Dicky van der Meer, Marten Walinga, Łukasz Kosobudzki, Fedde Kramer, Hein de Vries, Jelle Wiersma, Taeke Kooistra, Petra Dušková, Kanstantsin Nord, Malte Schulz, Mikhail Batunin.

In the second place, people who qualified earlier but withdrew for whatever reason, cannot qualify again. This holds true for Foeke Tiemensma, Tsjerk Wijbenga, Cor Kooistra, Fedde Wiersma and Henk Haanstra.

Then: players who, for example, qualify on 7 June for the finals, can no longer participate in the preliminary rounds of 8, 15 and 16 June. The same principle also applies to those who qualify for the finals on 8 and 15 June.

Any players who qualified for the World Championships but have to withdraw for some reason or another can only be replaced by participants of the tournaments in which they qualified. In such a case, the next highest player in the official results of the relevant tournament is the first to be asked, etc. It is up to the WFD Foundation to decide whether a player will be replaced or his or her place will remain open.

Finally: If you know for SURE that you cannot participate in August, then do not particate now or in any of the following qualifications either. If you reach the finals, we will have to replace you (or your place will remain open), and that is a lot of unnecessary trouble.

Tournament Rules

The tournament rules are on Lidraughts (see the link below). The thinking time is 8 minutes + 7 seconds (Fischer) for each player. All tournaments last 3 hours. The first 7 rounds count for the final result.

Some requests from our side:

1) Stop playing after 8 rounds. The reason for this: you have 7 rounds to influence the results; the eight one is a spare one in case of the disqualification of one of the other players.

2) Play at least 7 rounds, also if a top three result is out of your reach. By withdrawing, you frustrate the other players’ chances in an unfair way.

3) Stay online until the announcement of the official results immediately after the tournament. Even if you think you do not qualify for the finals, it might be the case that someone else is removed from the standings, and that a play-off is necessary after all.

4) If you qualify for a play-off and we cannot get to you directly after the tournament, your absence may be treated as a withdrawal.

5) The chat function may only be used for general comments (good luck, good game, etc.) and communication with the organizers. The chat should not be used for questions about admission to or removal from the tournament. The organizers have the right to ban anyone from the chat who uses it for improper purposes.
