Hi,
Some time ago I have found an article, that inspired me to create the alternative draughts board. Idea is not new, as it is comming allegedly from 19th century, thus it is amazing to me.
Actually, checkerboard is not a continuous board. Considering the fact, that unlike in chess, white fields do not play, 50% of the area are actually gaps on the battlefield. What a waste of space !!!
There is however a way to improve. If you rotate all playing squares by 45 degrees, you can close them up, so there is absolutely no waste of space.
See the example of 10x10 board (but works also for 8x8 and other)
I would be so exited if such option would be available on Lidraughts (where somewhere in settings you would have an option between standard & compact board).
Maybe it would not be so difficult to make it happen.
Regards,
Artur

Compact draughts board option
Unfortunately I am not a programmer and I don't know how to programm in scala, and I am wondering how much effort it would require to make such option available.
I am wondering also which module is responsible for current look and feel of the board.
Is it this one, or sth. else?

As for an alternative, I would rather play on alquerque-like board which is still loved in Philippines:

In principle such boards could be added. Although it could be quite some work to make the different geometries work.
It will be mostly in the frontend, so no Scala involved @apieti. The most logical starting point would be draughtsground, which renders all the boards and pieces:
