Live coverage with 16(!) open tournaments

Finally the time has come! The World Championship Frisian Draughts (organized by Stifting WFD) will start at 11th of August, 2021. The match was originally planned in 2020, but was rescheduled because of the Corona-pandemic. Now, a year later, the match is about to start!

Marten Walinga (on the left), the defending champion, will take on Folkert Groenveld (on the right). Folkert has earned his place as a challenger by winning the Frisian Open tournament in 2019 in Franeker. He did so by leaving draughts legends behind him like Alexander Geogiev and Jelle Wiersma. Live Coverage

You can follow all games live on Lidraughts in the broadcast. With that, a daily live-stream will be provided with live commentary, background stories, analysis, guest-speakers and more. So follow this event to learn a thing or two about the wonderful game of Frisian draughts and experience this battle from up close!

Stifting WFD also organizes 16 (!) online tournaments Frysk! and Frisian Draughts for you, in celebration of the main-event. There is a total prize pool of €2000, and the finalists can win a ticket for the World Championship Frysk! and the Fryslân Open Tournament. Down below you can see the schedule of all the online tournaments. Registration is free.

In each tournament the top 3 will qualify for the semi-finals. There are 4 semi-finals (2x Frysk! and 2x Frisian Draughts), each with a prize pool of €400 and a guaranteed prize for every semi-finalist. The 2 winners of the semi-finals play head to head in the finals Frysk! and Frisian Draughts, each with a prize pool of €200. The winner of the Frysk! final also wins a ticket for the next World Championship Frysk! and the winner of the Frisian Draughts final a ticket for the next Fryslân Open tournament.

When you qualify or win a prize, you will get a personal message via Lidraughts by Stifting WFD with all necessary information.
