Is russian draughts the same as checkers?

Russian draughts has own and unique set of rules: there are tactical ideas which can bring a win or a draw in Russian draughts., but in virtually all other variants may be losing.
The closest variant to Russian draughts is (American) Pool checkers, and, according to my estimation, compatibility is about 90%, which would mean that in a match of 10 games the differences between rules might irreversibly impact a result only in 1 game.
Although there are only a few publications on Russian draughts in English, you can adapt many ideas from Pool checkers. Some English books on Pool checkers are available for download at http://jamaicadraughts.com/books/ .
As well, if you are interested in draughts variants on 8x8 board, you might like a program hwiegman.home.xs4all.nl/alfacheckers.html which allows to play according to the most popular rules. Yet I have to say that you must not trust it in evaluations of that program: there are some things that this program overestimates and underestimates, and it can be easily be beaten by experienced players.

English checkers will be added, patience please Roeps working on it. It just takes alot of time.

Kalnap is correct. It's pretty similar to Pool Checkers. I think the main difference is that once a piece is kinged, it does not continue onward and capture if there are any captures available. The resources he provided from the Jamaica Draughts are useful. I personally suggest those by Vladimir Kaplan, who was a international master.
